The
Steelpad, made in Denmark, has a new Express delivery
service. This shipping option is great. There is a
Track and Trace option that gives you exactly where
and when the package stops. For those anxious people,
you can see exactly where your package is. This new
option is a big plus.
Previously, we reviewed the Steelpad
3S and decided it was “the absolute best
choice on the market.” New to their line of
products is their Steelpad 4S, measuring a whopping
11.42” x 10.12” x 0.14 (290 mm x 257 mm
x 3.5 mm) nearly 25% larger in surface area.
Steelpad exchanged the simple looking package to one
with a bit more character. With the pad on a backdrop
of gaming images, there is a statement that is very
true to its word: “Professional Gaming Mousepad.”

Along
with the Steelpad, they include the PadSurfers which
is made of solid Teflon tape. Not only do the PadSurfers
provide a smoother feel, they also help prevent dust
from collecting to the bottom of your mouse feet.
The 3.5 mm aluminum plate is treated, hardened, and
fiber polished. The surface doesn’t collect
dust very easily like most plastic topped mouse pads,
which is great for the mouse to pad contact. The PadSurfers
also help minimize the noise of the mouse against
the pad.

Because
of the enlarged surface, the new 4S ensures that you
won’t have to pick up your mouse due to the
lack of room. For strategy games similar to Warcraft
III, you don’t have to worry about losing those
precious seconds due to having to lift your mouse.
The
increased size of the Steelpad 4S
Compatibility
is still somewhat of an issue. Older optical mice
don’t have enough processing power to really
use all of the Steelpad’s potential. Some skipping
may occur on those older mice. Of course with none
optical mice, you still the get rough feel of the
ball moving around.
The
thing that seems to separate the Steelpad from any
other mouse pad is its extremely smooth surface. Once
you try it, you’ll be addicted. Though for some
people, the shear size of the pad may be a downside.
You really have to make room for the massive pad.
Verdict
This mouse pad is just awesome. The feel, the size,
everything. With any optical mouse, this pad is just
right. Though the 4S is almost $50, it is definitely
worth getting. The 3S is cheaper, around $37, but
if you have the room, I think the 4S would be much
better.
